Chunabhatti firing case: Mumbai Police arrested 4 suspects
Chunabhatti: Police have arrested four members of a gang in the Chunabhatti firing case that took place on Sunday afternoon, while the search is on for the fifth member. One person was killed while four others, including an eight-year-old girl, were injured during the shootout, where the shooters fired at least 10 to 15 rounds.
Police have arrested four accused
Police said on Monday that the four arrested accused have been identified as Ashutosh Gawand, Sunny Patil, Naresh Patil and Sagar Sawant, who are residents of Chunabhatti. Meanwhile, the fifth accused, identified as Prabhakar Pachindre, is currently absconding.
Police found dozens of empty bullets at the scene
Mumbai Police Control received information about alleged firing at around 3:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. On the spot in Azad Gali area, the police found dozens of empty bullets, in which many people were lying abandoned and had bullet marks on their bodies. One of them was Pappu alias Sumeet Yerunkar, a notorious gangster with a long history of criminal activities. Pappu (45), resident of Sion-Chunabhatti, was shot in the stomach and thigh. By the time Pappu was admitted to Sion Hospital, he was declared dead.
According to police, the reason for the incident was gang rivalry.
According to the police, Pappu wanted to celebrate his birthday on January 2. For this he wanted to get some banners printed. So, Pappu and his colleagues, Madan Patil (54), Roshan Lokhande (30) and Akash Khadgle (31), went to a studio in Azad Gali to get the banner printed. As soon as they reached there, the five accused, who were part of a rival gang, also reached there. Police officials said that there was already enmity between the two gangs. “The accused gang were armed with weapons, and as soon as they saw Pappu gang, they started firing back and forth. During the same, all of them were shot except Pappu, who could not be saved. The rest are currently in Sion Hospital. Are undergoing treatment,” said a police officer.
An 8 year old girl was also injured in the incident
The fourth injured is an 8-year-old girl named Trisha Sharma, who was roaming in the area. He was shot in his left hand. Trisha is also currently in Sion Hospital. The deceased’s brother Swapnil is part of the political group BJP.
FIR registered
In the first information report (FIR) lodged by a person named Vinod Vishwakarma (35), a local resident of Chunabhatti, sections including 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code have been imposed. Relevant sections of the Code and Arms Act have been imposed on the accused.
