CISF constable commits suicide by shooting himself

CHENNAI: A 38-year-old Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable, posted on security duty inside the Kamarajar port in Ennore, allegedly shot himself with his service weapon in the early hours of Wednesday. The deceased was identified as A Kumar (38). Native of Thirumangalam, Madurai.

Kumar has been in the CISF since 2009 and was posted to the CISF unit at Kamarajar port six months ago.

Police sources said that he reached his duty at around 9 pm on Tuesday night, which was to end at 6 am on Wednesday.

Around 4 am, one of his colleagues was on patrol when he saw Kumar sitting on a chair in his post with a bloody wound on his head and alerted his superiors.

Kumar was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Minjur police have registered a case and the constable’s body has been taken to the government hospital for post-mortem.

Kumar is survived by his wife and two children who live in Madurai. An investigation is being conducted to find out the reasons behind the constable taking his own life.
