Claudia Goldin is the third woman to win the Nobel Prize in Economics.
New Delhi: American economist Claudia Goldin has won the 2023 Nobel Economics Prize for advancing people’s understanding of the women’s labor market, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said on Monday.
Goldin is the third woman to win the Nobel in Economic Sciences, following Elinor Ostrom in 2009 and Esther Duflo in 2019.
Of the 54 Nobel Prizes in Economic Sciences awarded from 1969 to 2022, only 25 out of 92 winners have had the honor of receiving an individual award.
“Claudia Goldin, this year’s laureate in Economic Sciences, has provided the first comprehensive account of women’s earnings and labor market participation over centuries,” the official statement said.
“Their research reveals the causes of change as well as the main sources of gender differences.”
The prestigious award is the last of this year’s Nobel Prizes and brings home 11 million Swedish crowns ($999,137) to the winner. (IANS).
