Clicking on the link was costly, person blackmailed through video
Raichur: In Raichur district, Karnataka, an individual has filed a police complaint regarding an unsettling situation. The complainant revealed that he had been subjected to over a year of blackmail through a manipulated video, which he unwittingly received after clicking on a link sent to his phone from an unidentified source.
Mahendra Kurdi, employed as a gauge operator at Hatti gold mines, detailed in his complaint that the video link had reached him during his work hours. Upon clicking the link, he was taken aback to discover footage portraying him engaged in a video call conversation with a nude girl. The video also depicted Mahendra mimicking the girl’s actions during the call.
Unknown perpetrators subsequently threatened Mahendra, demanding a substantial sum of money. They warned that unless he complied with their demands, they would disseminate the video on social media. Despite Mahendra’s reluctance to involve the police, the video was eventually circulated widely and even sent to his family members.
Following this distressing development, he contacted the police and formally registered a complaint. It’s worth noting that the complainant had previously served as the treasurer for a private school, and in the video, Mahendra was misrepresented as an employee of the school.
