CM Mamta called an all-party meeting on Bengal State Day on August 29

Kolkata (IANS). Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called an all-party meeting on August 29 to discuss celebrating ‘Statehood Day for West Bengal’ on the occasion of Poila Boishakh (Bengali New Year).

A member of the state cabinet confirmed that the meeting has been called at 4.30 pm at the state secretariat in Nabanna.

However, the opposition BJP has criticized the proposed all-party meeting, saying it is a deliberate attempt to distort the history of the state.

Samik Bhattacharya, BJP’s state spokesperson in West Bengal, said the public will reject forces that are trying to distort the state’s history. There is no connection with Bengali New Year’s Day and the statehood day of West Bengal.

Bhattacharya’s statement indicated that the BJP would refrain from sending its representatives to the proposed all-party meeting. The BJP prefers to celebrate West Bengal Foundation Day on 20 June.

This year, there was a tussle between the state government and the Raj Bhavan after Governor CV Anand Bose celebrated West Bengal’s formation day at the Governor’s House complex that day.
