CM Mamta took a dig at Shuvendu Adhikari, BJP MLAs created ruckus in the House
Kolkata (IANS). Mamta Banerjee took a jibe at Leader of the Opposition Shuvendu Adhikari on Thursday in the monsoon session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. CM Mamta said that the officer won the election from Nandigram assembly constituency by allegedly rigging it. On this remark of Mamta, the BJP MLAs created ruckus in the house and went out of the house protesting.
The chief minister made the remarks while participating in the debate on BJP’s adjournment motion over the violence in the recently concluded panchayat polls. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked the Leader of the Opposition – Have you forgotten about the Nandigram elections? How did the results change after the power cut during counting? did you forget this? Why are you becoming so sensitive?
According to the information, Shuvendu Adhikari won the 2021 elections by defeating Mamta Banerjee from the Nandigram assembly seat. However, after this CM Mamta contested the by-election on Bhawanipur assembly seat and won.
Following Chief Minister Mamata’s remarks, BJP MLAs started protesting inside the House and walked out of the House carrying black flags.
BJP MLA Ambika Roy said the chief minister raised the Nandigram issue to divert attention from the main point of the adjournment motion. Whereas, there was violence at many places in the recently concluded panchayat elections.
He said that this is the first time after the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections that an adjournment motion has been brought up for discussion by the party. That is why the Chief Minister raised the issue of Nandigram to divert attention from Panchayat election violence.
However, amidst protests from BJP MLAs, the Chief Minister stuck to her point and continued with her speech. He said that I also have the right to say and question how the results changed in Nandigram after the power cut. The Chief Minister said, why are you all shying away now?
