CM Naveen Patnaik will lay the foundation stone of Metro Rail project on January 1, 2024
Bhubaneswar: As per the directions of Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik, Shri VK Pandian, Chairman, 5T and Nabina Odisha reviewed with senior officials the work of the proposed Metro Rail project which will connect the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The first phase of the Metro Rail project will connect Bhubaneswar Airport to Trisulia Square via Chandrashekharpur. Jaidev Vihar, Vani Vihar, Master Canteen and Rajmahal Square.
Shri Pandian discussed and facilitated decisions to start the construction of the Metro Rail project on time.
The project was announced by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik on Odisha Day on 1st April 2023, for which the detailed project report has been approved by the Government. A master plan is being developed through Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited to extend the metro rail service to other areas of Bhubaneswar and the cities of Khordha, Puri and Cuttack.
Trisulia is going to emerge as a major traffic hub serving the cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack as well as the gateway to the twin city from Banki and Athagarh. The Central Depot of the metro rail project will be located near Trisulia Square where the command and control center as well as maintenance and stability facilities for metro trains will be constructed. A new bus stand is being built at Trisulia intersection, which will be further expanded and integrated with the Metro station.
Shri VK Pandian, Chairman, 5T & Nabin Odisha expressed satisfaction over the progress made by various departments and agencies and directed the officials to complete the preparatory work on time before the foundation stone of the project to be laid by the Hon’ble Chief Minister on 01 January. 2024.
Shri Pandian directed that the works should be monitored very closely following the principles of 5T to ensure timely completion of the project within the four-year schedule. He also asked the officials to ensure that this project realizes the vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of a world class urban transport system for aspirational Odisha.
He advised that the metro system should take advantage of the latest technologies and most advanced equipment to provide efficient mobility solutions to the passengers. He asked officials to ensure that other modes of transport are integrated with metro rail stoppages for seamless movement of passengers. He also advised officials to ensure that the project should be planned in such a way that it has enough room for long-term future expansion.
Shri VK Pandian paid a surprise visit to the newly constructed Cuttack Netaji Bus Terminal (CNBT) to gather public feedback and observe the cleanliness at the state-of-the-art terminal. He interacted with passengers, vendors, service providers, bus operators and other staff members. He asked the officials to further strengthen the Integrated Information Management System which will enhance passenger experience and ensure hassle free movement of passengers.
The officials also visited the converted Taldanda Canal. He advised that the visual aesthetics along the canal should be maintained so that it remains an entertainment hub for the people of Cuttack city.
Shri Pandian was also accompanied by Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Smt. Anu Garg. Chief Secretary, Shri Manoj Kumar Mishra, Principal Secretary, E&IT Department, Cuttack District Administration, Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation and senior officials of the Works Department of the Government.
