Complaint against actress Nayanthara and others for hurting religious sentiments regarding the film ‘Annapurnani’
Mumbai: Activists of two right-wing organizations have filed separate complaints here against actor Nayanthara and others associated with her newly released film ‘Annapurni’, alleging that some scenes in it hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. Yes, police said on Thursday.
He said the complaints allege that the film makes controversial remarks about Lord Ram and also promotes ‘love jihad’.
‘Annapurnani’ was recently released on Netflix.
“A complaint was lodged by Bajrang Dal workers at Oshiwara police station in the western suburbs two days ago and investigation is underway in this regard,” an official said.
Hindu IT Cell founder Ramesh Solanki has filed another complaint at Lokmanya Tilak Marg police station in south Mumbai, an official said.
According to his complaint, the film ‘Annapurni’ has insulted Lord Ram and has been released deliberately to hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.
Solanki also cited some scenes in the film which he says hurt religious sentiments.
The complaint refers to the last scene of the film in which a temple priest’s daughter, played by Nayanthara, offers namaz wearing ‘hijab’ before making biryani.
In another scene, the character’s friend Farhan, played by Nayanthara, brainwashes her into cutting meat and says that Lord Shri Ram and Maa Sita also ate meat.
There is mention of another scene in which Nayanthara does not go to the temple but goes to Farhan’s house for Iftari.
In her complaint, Solanki demanded that a First Information Report (FIR) be filed against actor Nayanthara, director Nilesh Krishna and others for hurting religious sentiments and promoting ‘love jihad’.
“We have received a written complaint application against the actor and others,” the officer said.
“The complainant has not yet come to the police station. We are waiting for him to come forward to the police so that we can take further action.”
“Love Jihad” is a term used by right-wing groups and activists to allege a concerted effort by Muslim men to convert Hindu women to Islam.
