Complaint of ragging in Gurudas College
Kolkata (IANS). Following the death of a student on the Jadavpur University campus, a complaint of ragging has been lodged at Gurudas College, a premier college under the University of Calcutta.
Kolkata Police has initiated investigation against two former students of the college under Section 4 of the Prohibition of Ragging Act 2011. The investigation has been initiated after obtaining requisite permission in this regard from the office of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Kolkata.
Police have started investigation after a student of Gurudas College complained to the University Grants Commission (UGC) accusing two former students of being involved in ragging. In his complaint to the UGC, the concerned student has also accused Gurudas College Students Union General Secretary Sohom Chakraborty in this matter. But he has denied the allegations.
On receiving the complaint, UGC has sent an email to the college authorities seeking clarification in the matter and has also advised immediate counseling of the student concerned.
The UGC also directed the college authorities to take the matter seriously and initiate investigation against the accused. The Commission has directed that the identity of the student making the complaint should be kept secret.
But the college authorities have maintained complete silence on this matter.
