Congress accused former CM of electricity theft, shared video

Bengaluru: Congress has accused HD Kumaraswamy, former Chief Minister of Karnataka and State Chief of Janata Dal Secular, of electricity theft. Congress leaders claim that electricity was obtained illegally to decorate their JP Nagar residence in Bengaluru with lights on Diwali. A video regarding this was posted on X on Tuesday by the ruling party in the state. Also, through its caption, the son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda was condemned. In response, Kumaraswamy said that nothing is being lied about this from our side. He said that the private decorator had connected the power directly to a nearby electric pole.

JDS leader said, ‘As soon as we got information about this, that connection was immediately removed. After this, the connection for electricity was made to the meter board of the residence.’ Congress took a jibe at this and said, ‘HD Kumaraswamy is the only honest person in the world. JP Nagar residence was decorated with lights through illegal power connection. It is unfortunate that the former Chief Minister is facing such poverty that he has to steal electricity. This criticism of Kumaraswamy was also responded to by the party. Regarding this, JDS reminded the ‘Griha Jyoti’ scheme of the Congress government and said that under this, 200 units of free electricity is given every month for residential connections, not 2,000 units.

The former Chief Minister posted on X and said, ‘I am saddened by this mistake. Let BESCOM (Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company) officials come and investigate. After this they will issue notice. I am ready to pay the fine.’ He also accused Congress of presenting a small matter as a big issue. Kumaraswamy said, ‘I have not taken possession of any government property in the state. Nor has there been encroachment on anyone’s land. This is not a fight over land and property for which anyone’s blood can be shed.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has also reacted regarding this matter. He said that BESCOM will definitely take appropriate action regarding this matter. However, he also expressed apprehension that a case may be registered against Kumaraswamy in this regard. Congress took a jibe at Kumaraswamy and said, ‘If you were facing such financial problems, you should have applied under the Griha Jyoti Yojana. Well, it is possible that you may not be aware of our scheme, which allows only one electricity meter. There are many meters registered in your name.
