Congress MP K Suresh said – will strongly oppose the expulsion of Mahua Moitra

New Delhi: Congress MP K Suresh on Friday said his party will oppose the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha if the Ethics Committee report to be tabled in Parliament today recommends it.

Speaking to ANI, Congress Lok Sabha Chief Whip K Suresh said, “Today, the Ethics Committee report is being presented. It is already included in the list of business in the Lok Sabha. Let us see what report they are going to present in the House.” , If the report calls for the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra, we will strongly oppose it.
Mahua Moitra is facing “cash-for-query” charges against her. The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee has recently recommended his expulsion from the lower house.

The Ethics Committee, which investigated the allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, adopted its 500-page report on November 9, expelling Moitra from the 17th Lok Sabha in view of her “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous and criminal conduct”. It was recommended to do so.
As soon as Parliament convenes on Friday for the fifth day of the ongoing winter session, the Ethics Committee report on Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in the alleged “cash-for-query” case will be tabled in the Lok Sabha.

“Chairpersons Vinod Kumar Sonkar and Aparajita Sarangi will table the first report (Hindi and English versions) of the Ethics Committee,” the agenda issued by the Lok Sabha said.
TMC has demanded that MP Mahua Moitra be given a chance to defend herself.

TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said, “I spoke to the Speaker and he said that the report of this committee will also be tabled in the House along with other reports. I said that TMC MP Mahua Moitra should be given a chance to speak.”
According to sources, the draft report on Mahua Moitra’s cash-for-questions case shows that she visited UAE four times from 2019 to 2023, while her login was accessed multiple times. Dubai,” according to the ethics committee’s draft report.

Amid the ongoing controversy, Mahua Moitra on Monday refused to comment on the Ethics Committee report, saying, “She will speak only when they present the report before Parliament.”

Moitra had appeared before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on November 2 regarding cash-for-query allegations against her. Along with opposition members of the panel, she “walked out” of the meeting on Thursday. Opposition members raised questions on the questioning line and alleged that “personal questions” were asked to the Trinamool Congress MP.

Earlier on November 10, Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra had alleged that the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, which was probing her role in the ‘cash for query’ case, was acting like a ‘kangaroo’ court.

In a post on Twitter, the TMC MP had also said that the committee does not have the power to expel him from the Lok Sabha.
“Proud to go down in parliamentary history as the first person to be expelled for being unethical by the Ethics Committee, whose mandate does not include expulsion. First eviction and then ask the government to ask the CBI to find the evidence. Kangaroo court, Bandarbant from beginning to end” Mahua Moitra had said in her post.
