Congress tough on JPC’s demand in Adani Group ‘scam’, Pawar’s stand soft!

Mumbai (IANS) | Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar on Tuesday appeared to backtrack from his earlier statements as the Congress reiterated that there would be no compromise on its demand for a JPC probe into the alleged Adani Group scam. Appearing to be relenting, Pawar told a private television channel on Tuesday that he would not oppose an inquiry by a joint parliamentary committee if his allies (alliance partners) felt it was necessary.

Pawar told Marathi channel ABP Majha that

A friend’s opinion may differ from mine, but we have to unite on this, I expressed my views. But if colleagues feel there is a need for a JPC probe, I will not oppose it. I may not agree with them, but I will not let the strength of the opposition affect me.

Along with this, State Congress President Nana Patole said that 19 opposition parties in the country are demanding a JPC inquiry into the Adani Group scam.

He further said that the funds of LIC, SBI and EPFO have been illegally invested in the Adani group. This is the hard earned money of the people and it is entitled to be accounted for. If the truth has to be revealed in this, then it can come out only through JPC investigation.

He pointed out that earlier several JPCs were set up in the so-called Bofors case, the stock market scam and the soft drinks issue, which were headed by Pawar.

Patole told media persons that if there is really no substance in the Adani Group scam then why is Prime Minister Narendra Modi scared of the JPC probe?

He said that irrespective of NCP’s alliance with BJP in Nagaland government or some other local bodies, Congress will continue to fight against BJP’s dictatorship through MVA.
