Constitution of India is strong and protected by independent judiciary, said SCBA President

New Delhi (ANI): The Constitution of India is protected by a strong and independent judiciary, said Dr Adish Aggarwal, President, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), at the Constitution Day celebrations organized by the Supreme Court of India.
“It is the judiciary that provides a level playing field to the litigants, even an ordinary citizen today has the power to question and challenge the might of the state.
Under the leadership of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, the judiciary in recent times has seen “face various challenges and meet them with extraordinary determination,” Agarwal said.

He said, “Today is a historic day as our President Draupadi Murmu has unveiled the statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar in this supreme temple of justice.”
Saying that this was a long standing demand and has been made possible by the efforts of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the SCBA President said, “Dr Ambedkar is the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and it is most appropriate that we pay tribute to him Let it be given.” The day marks the adoption of the Constitution and the centenary of the beginning of his law practice.”
“The Indian Constitution is a living document and it adapts itself to meet the requirements of changing times. The philosophy underlying the Constitution remains constant.

“While the political system in our neighboring countries has repeatedly collapsed, we remain a nation governed by the rule of law and guided by democratic values,” he said.
“Our judges worked hard even during the Covid period, when most of the countries and their judiciaries were not functioning.

I am happy that Dr. Justice Chandrachud has increased the number of working days in the Supreme Court to 190 in the year 2024. We hope that this year 2025, the Supreme Court can cross 200 working days,” he further said.

The SCBA president expressed hope that the government would introduce the Advocates Protection Bill to provide medical insurance and make land available for lawyers’ chambers.

During the event, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Sunday said that the Supreme Court is continuously working to ensure that legal procedures become easy and simple so that citizens do not have to stay in jails unnecessarily.

The CJI said that on Constitution Day last year, President of India Draupadi Murmu had expressed concern over overcrowding in prisons and imprisonment of citizens from marginalized backgrounds.

Responding to this, the CJI said, “Madam, I want to assure you that we are continuously working to ensure that legal procedures become easy and simple so that citizens do not stay in jails unnecessarily. Version 2.0 of the FASTER initiative will be launched.

Today it ensures that judicial orders for release of a person are immediately transferred to the jail authorities through electronic means so that the person can be released in time.”
“Also, on the judicial side, the Supreme Court is hearing cases related to prisoners’ rights, overcrowding, etc.,” the CJI said. He said he has also tasked the court’s research center to come up with a project for reforms. Condition of jails.

Speaking at the Constitution Day event at the Supreme Court, CJI Chandrachud said the goal behind these initiatives is to ensure that people feel that the constitutional institution of the judiciary is working for them.

“Today on the occasion of Constitution Day, I want to tell the people of India that the doors of the Supreme Court are always open for you and will remain open in future also. You never need to be afraid of coming to court.” CJI said.

Similarly, the CJI said, the statue of Dr. Ambedkar that we unveiled today in the Supreme Court complex is an extension of the idea that the right to approach the Court is the “heart and soul” of the Constitution, as Dr. Ambedkar famously said. , (ANI)
