Court orders Shivshankar to undergo medical examination in JIPMER
The Supreme Court (SC) issued an order allowing M. Shivshankar, former secretary principal to Minister Principal Pinarayi Vijayan and accused in the Life Mission case, to undergo medical examination at the Jawaharlal Institute of Education and Medical Investigation of Postgraduate (JIPMER). , Puducherry. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) argued before the Supreme Tribunal that Shivshankar does not have any serious health issues and if the provisional bail is extended, a medical report from a credible institution would be required.
The Tribunal Supreme had granted exemption to Shivshankar on provisional bail for the surgery and treatment of the column. Additional Prosecutor General K.M. Emergency department head Nataraj said that since Shivshankar does not have any health problems at present, euthanasia should be ordered. Having said that, if there is any health problem, Shivshankar should get some tests done in a trusted hospital to prove it.
The DE initially demanded that Shivashankar appear for an examination at AIIMS, Madurai. But Sivasankar’s lawyers told the tribunal that AIIMS Madurai is a hospital on paper and it is not possible to conduct the examination there. Later, ED suggested JIPMER as an alternative and the Supreme Court accepted the request.
The Supreme Court rejected the plea filed by Shivshankar seeking consideration of his release on bail in the second week of January. Medical validation information must be submitted by this date, the tribunal announced.
