Court sentences man to 3.5 years rigorous imprisonment in PMLA case related to heroin smuggling
New Delhi (IANS). A special court in Jalandhar sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment of over three years in a money laundering case related to drug smuggling.
The court on Thursday sentenced Navdeep Singh under various sections of the PMLA. Apart from this, a fine of Rs 50,000 has also been imposed on him. If he fails to pay the fine, Singh will have to undergo an additional jail term of three months.
The Court has also directed forfeiture of Rs 9,00,000, which was seized by the ED officials as the proceeds of crime.
ED initiated investigation on the basis of FIR registered by PS Narcotics Cell, Amritsar, Punjab against accused Navdeep Singh and others under various sections of NDPS Act and Arms Act.
As per the police investigation, Navdeep Singh, Sarabjit Singh and Pal Singh (since deceased) used to smuggle heroin in association with Rupinder Singh alias Rob Sidhu, a Canadian national.
