Cow Vigilante Monu Manesar Sent To 14-day Judicial Custody
Cow vigilante Mohit Yadav alias Monu Manesar has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days, hours after he was detained by Haryana Police. Manesar was booked by Rajasthan Police for the murder of two men in February and accused by some of inciting the recent violence in Nuh.
A CCTV video, accessed exclusively by Republic Media Network, showed Monu Manesar being picked up by plainclothesmen. The clip shows officers taking the cow vigilante into custody.
Two men, Nasir (25) and Junaid (35) were found dead in a burnt car in Loharu, Bhiwani in February this year. Subsequently, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by the Rajasthan Police naming Manesar. The men from Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes who then crossed the state border into Haryana.
“We have received information that Haryana Police has detained Monu Manesar, who is wanted in Nasir and Junaid (lynching) case. Haryana Police is carrying out its further procedure and our officers are in contact with them. When their procedure completes, (our) District Police will begin theirs,” said Bharatpur Superintendent of Police (MP) Mridul Kachawa.
Manesar is also accused in Nuh violence. Before the July 31 violence, a clip of Manesar had emerged saying that he would participate in the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek procession. He also asked people to join the VHP-yatra.
The yatra was attacked by a mob in Nuh. Six people lost their lives in Nuh and Gurugram in the violence. Nuh and adjoining areas were on edge for days as authorities clamped prohibitory orders and imposed restrictions on mobile internet.
On Tuesday, Haryana VHP office bearer Varun Sharma claimed there is no case against Manesar. “Bajrang Dal workers are being harassed for no reason. We condemn this,” he said.
