CPI state secretary accuses government of neglect after Cyclone Michong

Vijayawada: In a raw revelation, CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna drew attention to the dire condition of farmers in the state, saying they have received little or no help from the government due to the recent cyclone. ,

Addressing reporters, Ramakrishna expressed concern over the government’s apparent apathy and said that despite the prevailing drought situation, it felt different for the difficult situation of farmers in 440 mandals.

“The recent storm has increased the challenges for the farming community, causing huge losses,” he said.

Questioning the responsibility of the Minister Principal, Ramakrishna commented: “I wonder whether this Minister Principal is at least embarrassed”. The grassroots criticized the government’s lack of commitment, which marked a sharp contrast with pre-poll promises of generalized support.

“Electoral leaders are holding everyone’s head there,” he said. Ramakrishna said, “Now you are doing a show without going to the camp.”

Ramakrishna accused the government of ignoring the same voters who played an important role in his coming to power.

He emphasized the human cost of the crisis, pointing out that people from all walks of life, especially farmers and farmers’ children in areas affected by Sequoia and the typhoon, are most affected by government inaction.

Ramakrishna highlighted the seriousness of the situation and paid immediate attention to the difficult situation of the farmers.

Former minister and coordinator Vadde Sobhandeswarao echoed these concerns, calling for immediate government intervention to address the crisis faced by the farming community and saying the situation was a record breaker.

Earlier, in an important round table meeting of all parties convened at Vijayawada Dasari Bhawan on December 9, CPI Rashtra Samiti leaders had expressed deep concern over the devastation caused by Cyclone Michoon in various parts of the state.

AP State Congress president Gidugu Rudra Raju highlighted that over 20 lakh acres of crops have suffered major damage, surpassing the conservative government’s estimate of 1.47 lakh hectares.

Homes and properties are in ruins and tree-lined roads are deteriorating further, causing severe disruption to transportation.

The round table meeting, which was attended by leaders of various parties, presented several demands, including recognition of the cyclone and the damage caused by Sequoia as a national disaster and immediate allocation of Rs 1,000 million to the state.

AP CPM state secretary, V Srinivasa Rao, said: “Both the central government and the state have not complied with the needs of the suffering people in the areas affected by the cyclone and Sequoia. There are various mandals in 8 districts where crops have been ruined but till now the government has not taken any measures. Furthermore, drainage systems are the main cause of most of the damage caused to rice fields in the Krishna delta. During the last 20 years, the government has not taken any initiative for maintenance of drainage. Free amount of Rs 25,000 per acre for tenant farmers.”

Rigorous identification and enumeration of damaged crops to prevent irregularities, giving priority to tenants. Declaring 470 provinces with low rainfall as drought affected. Compensation of Rs 40,000 per acre for food crops, Rs 75,000 for commercial crops and Rs 1 lakh per acre for horticultural crops, commensurate with the current cost of production and application of crop insurance for all crops.

The resolution emphasizes the need for immediate action by both the Central Government and the States to alleviate the suffering of the affected population and avoid further crisis.
