Indian women’s cricket team has created history with its first Test win against Australia. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side completed their consecutive wins on home soil by defeating Australia Women by eight wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.
India women’s team successfully chased 75 on the fourth and final day to register an eight-wicket win and a historic maiden Test win against Australia Women at the Wankhede Stadium on Christmas Eve on Sunday.
After bowling out Australia for 261 in 75 minutes in their second innings in the morning, India cruised to victory half an hour after lunch on the fourth day of the one-off Test as part of the multi-form series.
India had bowled out Australia for 219 runs on the first day and then scored 406 runs in its first innings thanks to half-centuries from Deepti Sharma (78), Smriti Mandhana (74), Jemimah Rodrigues (73) and Richa Ghosh (52).
In their first Test in India in four decades, the hosts dominated Australia to secure their second consecutive win in a fortnight.
Last week, India defeated England by 347 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai for their first win against England on home soil, the biggest win by runs in the history of women’s Test cricket.
Smriti Mandhana edged Jess Jonassen for the winning shot, taking their score to 75/2 in 18.4 overs, with Mandhana remaining unbeaten on 38 and Jemimah Rodrigues remaining unbeaten on 12. In 18.4 overs.
