Cuttack: Man convicted for raping younger brother’s wife, gets 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment

Cuttack: A man has been convicted and awarded rigorous imprisonment by the Cuttack Additional District Judge’s Court for raping his younger brother-in-law’s wife in March, 2021.

The court convicted one Manoj Barik of Jeleswar area and awarded him to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000. In case of non-payment of the fine, the court also directed Bairk to serve additional one year jail term.

Barik reportedly sexually assaulted his sister-in-law on the night of March 28, 2021 while the complaint was registered on April 4, 2021. Based on the complaint, police arrested the accused on April 30.

The court today convicted Manoj Barik and directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to pay a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim.
