New Delhi. Cyclone Biparjoy has reached Gujarat. Landfall has also started on the Saurashtra coast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the landfall process will continue till midnight. Apart from this, very strong winds are blowing in the coastal areas. One lakh people have been evacuated from the coast to safer places. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Sabarmati River Front and Dwarkadhish Temple have been closed. This cyclonic storm will hit the coast of Kutch and Sindh of Pakistan. This is the third storm in the last 60 years, which will hit the west coast. Chief Staff Officer, OPS, Western Naval Command Rear Admiral Kunal Rajkumar said that we are expecting heavy rainfall in the northern Gujarat region with a wind speed of about 130 kmph. Winds will blow at the speed of hour… Naval stations in Gujarat area…, are ready with more than 25 expert teams. These teams include diverse medical experts, good swimmers as well as equipment like portable chain sets, cutting tools which are very useful in clearing debris and fallen trees.
The cyclonic storm has knocked close to Gujarat. Very strong winds are blowing in the coastal areas. As per the latest reports, landfall has already started on the Saurashtra coast. Heavy rain accompanied by strong wind is lashing entire Saurashtra including Kutch. Biparjoy is moving at a speed of 12 kmph. According to the Meteorological Department, the landfall of Biparjoy will be at Jakhau Port in Kutch around 9 pm. On 12 November 1970, a storm hit the coast of East Pakistan (today’s Bangladesh), which was later to be declared by the World Meteorological Organization as the world’s most destructive tropical cyclone. The devastation caused by this sparked a civil war in East Pakistan and eventually led to foreign military intervention, which transformed it into a new nation state known as Bangladesh. 15 different types of ships are ready. Seven aircraft are engaged in SAR role for rescue operations at sea. 23 disaster relief teams with 29 Gemini boats, 50 OBMs (Out Board Motor) for boats, 1000 lifejackets and 200 lifebuoys are deployed at ICG stations to assist citizens.
