Chandigarh. The death toll in the incident rose to 18 with the death of six more people who drank poisonous liquor in Haryana. Officials said on Saturday that 16 deaths occurred in Yamunanagar, while two others died in Ambala district. Additional Superintendent of Police Himadri Kaushik told the media, “A total of 18 people have died so far. Seven people have been arrested in the case.” Himadri Kaushik said that more names have emerged during interrogation and they will be arrested soon.

“We have alerted the villagers about the incident.” Former chief minister and Congress leader Bhupendra Singh Hooda has held the state government responsible for the deaths. He said, “Black drug trade is spreading in Haryana under the patronage of the BJP-JJP government. “Poisonous liquor and synthetic drugs are killing the people of the state.” Hooda said in a statement, “More than 30 people died due to poisonous liquor in Panipat and Sonipat within four days in November 2020. Three years ago there were three deaths in Faridabad. In November 2022, four people lost their lives due to poisonous liquor in Sonipat. “Despite such massive deaths, the government took no action.”
