Defamation case: Gehlot appears in Delhi court via video conference

Jaipur (IANS). Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday appeared via video conference in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court in a defamation case filed by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

The court has fixed further hearing of the matter on August 21.

Shekhawat has claimed defamation in the case of Gehlot calling the Union minister and his family accused in the Sanjivani scam. After hearing the case, the Rouse Avenue Court had issued summons against CM Ashok Gehlot on July 6.

After this, Gehlot filed a revision in the sessions court, but he did not get relief from there. He was allowed to appear in the Revision Court through VC.

During the hearing in the Revision Court on August 1, it was said on behalf of CM Gehlot that he also has the Home Department. Being the Home Minister, the SOG reports to him. The information given to him by the SOG regarding the matter was shared with the media. The name of Shekhawat’s family is also mentioned in the complaint received by the SOG.

On the other hand, Shekhawat’s advocates argued that none of their clients were named in any of the complaints. After the defamation case was registered, the SOG collected the alleged facts.

About five months ago, Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat filed a defamation claim against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

On February 21, after a budget review meeting at the secretariat, Gehlot had said that Shekhawat’s entire family, including his parents and wife, was involved in the Sanjeevani scam.

Gehlot had welcomed the filing of the defamation suit by the Union minister. He had said, “At least on this pretext the matter will move forward.”
