Delhi: High Court asks Center to consider representation for linking assets with Aadhaar

On Thursday, the Delhi Superior Tribunal decided to consider a plea seeking linking of documents of movable and immovable properties of citizens with their Aadhaar numbers to curb corruption, generation of black money and ‘benami’ transactions. Filed a petition with the Centre. ,

The tribunal of Justices Rajeev Shakdhar and Girish Kathpalia said this pertains to political decisions and the tribunal cannot ask the government to do so.

Prima facie, we do not understand that these are areas where we do not have the complete scenario of data. The tribunal heard a plea by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, who said it is the duty of the state to take appropriate steps to curb corruption and send a strong message by confiscating ‘benami’ properties accumulated through illegal means.
