Delhi: Traffic likely to be affected in view of Christmas celebrations
New Delhi: In view of Christmas celebrations, traffic is likely to be affected in many parts of Delhi on Monday.
According to police, huge crowds of devotees are expected to throng churches and cathedrals in the national capital, including Sacred Heart Cathedral near Gol Dak Khana, St. Thomas Church (Mandir Marg), Free Church (Parliament Marg), Cathedral Church (President’s Front) are included. Bhawan), St. Martin’s Church (Delhi Cantonment), St. Thomas’ Church (R.K. Puram) and St. Mary’s Kannaya Church (Vasant Kunj).
Officials said heavy traffic is expected near Gol Dak Khana and on Ashok Road, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Sansad Marg, Lodhi Road, Aurobindo Marg and other stretches.
Police said traffic towards Gol Dak Khana will be diverted from RML intersection, Bhai Veer Singh Marg or Kali Bari T-point, Patel Chowk on Ashok Road and Connaught Place Outer Circle on Baba Kharak Singh Marg.
New Delhi district has divided the duties of traffic personnel into three shifts from 5 pm on Sunday till the end of the festivities on Monday, a police officer said.
“We are expecting around two lakh people to visit the cathedral near Gol Dak Khana and accordingly, adequate arrangements have been made. Keeping in mind that people may also like to visit India Gate during the festival, we have made proper arrangements there too,” the official said.
Another police officer said adequate number of personnel have been deployed in the market areas.
“Visitors are being instructed to park their vehicles at designated places to avoid traffic jams. If anyone does not do so, appropriate action will be taken. “Employees are ensuring smooth flow of traffic and informing passengers about alternative routes,” the official said.
