Mumbai (IANS). India’s star javelin thrower and Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has been trying to break the 90m mark for quite some time now. On June 30, 2022, he came very close to this figure in Stockholm (89.94).

Chopra, an Olympic champion, Diamond League finalist, Commonwealth Games gold medalist and World Championship silver medalist, has been facing questions over the past several months as to when he will be able to cross the 90m distance in international events.

This question has once again arisen ahead of the 2023 Athletics World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Chopra said that he is on the verge of achieving this feat and all it takes is one right day to achieve it.

In a conversation with GeoCinema, Neeraj Chopra said, “Definitely, I am close to this goal. All I need is a good day with favorable conditions.”

The 25-year-old Chopra said he is not setting any goals at the World Championships in Budapest and has also set his priorities, whether it is about his preparations for the Olympics or his favorite dish made from ghee.

The armyman from Haryana said that he is not feeling the pressure of anything. “I have become accustomed to dealing with pressure to some extent. However, when I participate in competitions that happen once every two to four years (such as the World Championships and the Olympics), there is undoubtedly a sense of responsibility. But I always give my best.”

Chopra, who is returning from injury. He has missed some important events and has not had much time to prepare for the Budapest event. But he is expected to give his best.

“Competing against the best athletes in the world is challenging. At the beginning of the year, I prepared very well, but then I got injured which forced me to miss a few competitions. However, after that, I came back and won the Lausanne Diamond Participated in the league, where I had a good performance. Since then, everything has gone better and I am happy with my performance and training.

Chopra said, “The most important thing for me is to be mentally prepared for the challenge, knowing that the World Championships are round the corner and I want to do well there. I don’t have any set goals or medals in mind, But the important thing is when I compete out there – I don’t want to have the fear of injury or anything in my mind. I want to give my best, and if that happens, I’ll come back better than ever.”
