DGCA fines Air India Rs 1.10 crore for security violations

New Delhi: Aviation watchdog DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 crore on Air India for security violations in respect of flights operated on some long-haul routes. According to a release on Wednesday, the regulator conducted a detailed investigation after receiving a voluntary safety report from an airline employee alleging safety violations in flights operated by Air India on some important long-haul routes. Since the investigation prima facie revealed non-compliance by the airline, the DGCA said a show cause notice was issued to Air India. The safety report pertains to leased aircraft operated by Air India. “Since the operation of the leased aircraft was not in accordance with the regulatory/OEM performance limits, DGCA has initiated enforcement action and imposed a penalty of Rs 1.10 crore on Air India,” DGCA said in the release.
