District Water Utility Committee meeting held under the chairmanship of Collector
Mahasamund. A meeting of the District Water Utility Committee was held in the Mahanadi meeting room of the Collectorate here today under the chairmanship of Collector Prabhat Malik. Mahasamund MLA Yogeshwar Raju Sinha and Saraipali MLA Chaturinand were especially present in the meeting.
Collector Shri Malik reviewed the issue of securing the water required for Rabi crop irrigation and disposal from major, medium and minor irrigation reservoirs of the district. In the meeting,
Mahasamund MLA Yogeshwar Raju Sinha said that on the basis of farmers’ demand and waterlogging, water should be supplied to the farmers for Rabi crop irrigation. He said that during the flow of water in the canal, restrictions should be imposed on the use of water by somehow cutting the banks of the canal. Efforts should be made to ensure that water reaches the fields till the last mile. Apart from the proposed 11 villages, he also talked about providing water to village Garhshivni from Kodar reservoir for Rabi crop. Similarly, Saraipali MLA Mrs.
Chaturinand asked to make a proposal for the repair of water leakage and canals in the area and gave instructions to repair and improve the leakages occurring from the gates of the reservoirs. In the meeting, the situation of water logging in all the reservoirs of the district was reviewed.
Collector Prabhat Malik, while reviewing the waterlogging situation in detail, said that it should be ensured to provide water as per the demand of the farmers and as per the waterlogging situation. He instructed the sub-divisional officers of the Water Resources Department to discuss with the farmers in their respective catchment areas and submit reports based on the need for irrigation of Nistar and Rabi crops.
Also said that necessary demands and proposals should be made for the repair of reservoirs and canals so that it can be included in the upcoming budget session. Executive Engineer Water Resources Shri H.R. Giving information, Yadav said that in the district there is a big project Kodar Reservoir, a medium project Keshwa Nala Reservoir and interstate project Upper Jonk Project (canal system). Apart from this, 129 minor irrigation projects and diversion schemes are constructed under the division.
Giving information about water logging till now, it was said that till now 76.62 mm of water logging is left in Kodar Reservoir Dam after Kharif crop irrigation. After keeping the drainage ponds safe for water supply and minimum water reservation in summer season, about 32.46 mm of water can be used. As per the capacity, water can be supplied to 1306 hectare area of 11 villages through the right bank canal system.
The Executive Engineer of Water Resources said that at present water filling is available in 28 reservoirs for Rabi irrigation. Based on the demand of farmers and water level, water can be supplied from these reservoirs for Rabi irrigation in 1047 hectare area of 37 villages.
