Experts say that drinking tea can burn fat cells. It contains some compounds which burn fat cells and increase metabolism. Apart from this, it contains high amount of caffeine which is helpful in boosting your energy. Tea contains high levels of compounds that help reduce the amount of fat absorbed by the gut and also reduce cholesterol (eating garlic will help reduce cholesterol). The catechin present in it is an antioxidant which is helpful in weight loss. But when you drink tea in the wrong way, your weight starts increasing.

If you drink milk tea your weight may increase.
A cup of tea is often loaded with sugar, which can also lead to weight gain.
If you are drinking tea 5 times a day, then you are consuming sugar 5 times, this can also lead to weight gain.
