Kanker. Due to lack of food in the hills, bears are reaching settlements in search of food. The bear had entered the house of Anusuiya Sonwani in village Kodejunga, four km away from Kanker district headquarters, after breaking the tin door at the boundary wall.
After reaching the kitchen, the bear drank the oil kept in the box, ate two packets of jaggery and sugar. He also drank the honey in the bottle and then kept roaming around in the garden. The family members were in another room and had closed the door from inside.
At first the family thought that the bear would return after eating, but the bear kept creating ruckus throughout the night. The family spent the night in fear due to the bear entering the house, the Sonwani family could not sleep the whole night. The bear also tried to break the door of the other room, but could not succeed
The family members called the Forest Department employee in the night itself but the mobile was not picked up, whereas on 16th December at 5.45 am the Forest Department staff picked up the phone. Forest guard Chetan Pawar reached the spot first, due to which the bear jumped and ran away from Boundarywal.
