Jajpur: A dentist has been arrested for allegedly running a drug smuggling racket in Odisha’s Jajpur city.
The accused has been identified as Nigamanand Khatua. He has a clinic in Mahabir Nagar of the town.
According to sources, Jajpur Town police caught two people – Sandeep Kumar Mallick and Rakhyakar Dixit – while selling brown sugar near Sundarei Muhan Chowk on Wednesday. During interrogation he took the name of the dentist, who was later arrested. Police also seized 25.2 grams of brown sugar, worth approximately Rs 2.5 lakh, from them.
Jajpur SDPO Satyabrata Lenka said that both of them used to trade brown sugar in the urban area, while the dentist was the kingpin of the drug smuggling network. “The dentist used to purchase medicines and supply them in small quantities to these smugglers. All three will be sent to court today.”
