Drugs worth Rs 45 crore seized, police shoot smuggler trying to escape
Guwahati (IANS). Assam Police has seized drugs worth Rs 45 crore in Cachar district and arrested three peddlers. An officer said that a smuggler was shot while trying to escape from custody.
Speaking to IANS, Cachar district SP Numal Mahatta said, “A team of Special Task Force (STF) carried out the operation near Silchar on Monday night. During the investigation of a vehicle, 90 plastic bags containing a white powdery substance were recovered. Whose weight was about 2.5 kg. He was suspected of having heroin.
The smugglers were carrying banned substances in the bonnet of the car. Along with this, at least 1 lakh Yaba tablets were also seized from the car. The three arrested have been identified as Manwar Hussain, Sadaruddin and Ansar Alam. All three are residents of Kalain area of the district.
According to the police, Hussain agreed to take the police team to the place where the banned substance was to be delivered. On the way, he requested the policemen to stop for urine.
After this he tried to run away taking advantage of the darkness, to stop him the police fired two rounds. One of which hit his left leg and he was injured. Then he was immediately taken to the nearest hospital for treatment, where he is undergoing treatment.
