Due to 300 units of free electricity every month, the burden of so many crores increased on the government

Chandigarh | In Punjab, of course, 300 units of electricity are being given free of cost to domestic consumers every month, but in spite of this, people are doing such things, knowing which you will also be surprised. While people are taking new connections for non-payment of bills, electricity meters are also being tampered with so as to avoid huge electricity bills. However, the government is also facing a lot of financial burden of providing free electricity. During one year, the additional burden of about Rs 6625 crore has increased on the Punjab government. About 3.32 lakh new connections and consumption has also increased by 296 crore units in a year. At the same time, the liability of Rs 890 crore has increased on Powercom within a year. If the government continues the scheme in this way, then during the coming 5 years, the government will have to raise 33 thousand crore rupees.
People in Punjab are very happy to get 300 units of free electricity every month and about 87 percent people of the state are getting zero electricity bill. Along with this, record breaking 3,32,655 new connections have also increased in the year. Many people have taken the name of different members in the family to take advantage of the scheme. On the other hand, for giving 300 units of free electricity, the Punjab government has to pay more subsidy of about Rs.6000 crores.
