Earthquake tremors felt in Arunachal Pradesh, no damage reported
Itanagar (IANS). Earthquake tremors were felt in Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district and adjoining areas on Friday, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said. The intensity of the earthquake has been measured at 4 on the Richter scale.
“Mild tremors were felt in Pangin and several other areas of Siang district and adjoining areas, causing slight panic among the people,” the NCS said. The earthquake was at a depth of 10 km from the surface.
The Arunachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority said there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
Frequent earthquakes in the mountainous northeastern states, especially Assam, Mizoram and Manipur, have raised concerns of the authorities, forcing them to build earthquake-resistant structures. Seismologists consider the Northeast region to be the sixth most earthquake-prone region in the world.
