Elephant crushed young man, painful death
Jashpur: The elephant, which entered Sitapur area from Jashpur forest range, crushed a young man in village Erand on Monday morning. The mental condition of the deceased youth was not good and he was wandering on the edge of the forest in the morning. The said elephant was chased away by the forest staff last night and taken to Jashpur area. The elephant returned from there in the morning. According to the information received, the incident took place on the road from village Erand to Benai. The wild elephant, which had entered the Sitapur forest range from Jashpur area, attacked the youth Kaleshwar Nagvanshi (35) who was roaming on the edge of the forest on Monday morning. The tusk elephant knocked the young man to death by crushing him with his feet. On Sunday night itself, the forest department staff had chased this tusk elephant, which was wandering in the Selayadih forest of Batauli area, into Jashpur forest.
On Monday morning, people who went to the forest edge saw the dead body of Kaleshwar Nagvanshi lying there and informed the forest staff. The body of the youth was brought to the Community Health Center, Sitapur, from where the body was handed over to the family members after the PM. Ranger Vijay Kumar Tiwari said that an immediate assistance amount of Rs 25 thousand has been provided to the victim’s family. After getting separated from the group, the said tusk elephant was roaming in the Saleyadih forest of Batauli. He was chased till Jashpur border at around 3 pm on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday. The forest staff returned from there and after a few hours the elephant also entered the Sitapur range. The elephant is still standing in the castor forest. The forest staff has warned people not to go towards the forest.
