Elephant dies due to electrocution
Hindol: In a tragic incident, another elephant has died untimely death in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, credible reports said on Wednesday morning. According to reports, the elephant got electrocuted and died after coming in contact with an electric wire laid to protect it from wild animals. According to reliable reports, the incident took place near Kantakula canal in Hindol forest division. Forest department and electricity department have reached the spot in Hindol and are investigating the matter. A survey in this regard said that around 1,200 elephants have died across India in the last 10 years – 245 of them in the last three years in Odisha, not to mention the gentle giants are in serious danger, currently. Only 27,000 are left in the country. Decision makers need to be sensitized through specific awareness programs for elephants, their important role as climate mitigaters and ecosystem engineers and the wider implications of their disappearance from our planet.
