Environmentalist, locals stop fire from spreading to hillock at Curtorim

A major fire was averted due to the efforts of an alert environmentalist and local residents who stopped the flames from spreading to a hillock at Kovatem, Curtorim.

Earlier on Sunday, some miscreants set fire to roadside garbage which kept on spreading. Environmentalist Eleuterio Carneiro from Navelim who was passing by noticed the fire and decided to stop it from spreading. He was later joined by locals and the situation brought under control.

“I request the Curtorim Panchayat to immediately take note and clear the garbage from this area otherwise there will be a similar situation in the future. It looks like this place has not been cleaned for months,” said Carneiro.

He also appealed to the Salcete Block Development Office (BDO) and other authorities concerned to take action as well
