‘Everyone wants to take advantage of the holiday’, says Shiv Rajkumar on ghost and lion clash
Jayaram said that he does not see the box office clash between Ghost and Leo as a “competition”. Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar has said about the box office clash between his film Ghost and Vijay-starrer Leo that it is all about giving the audience a great time during the festive season. Ghost is a heist action thriller written and directed by MG Srinivas. The Kannada language film tells the story of a man (Rajkumar)’s quest for justice, while Vijay’s Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is a Tamil action thriller. Both the films are releasing on Thursday.
Rajkumar said, “It is not about colliding with him (Leo) or coming against him, or who is the best and who is better. Everyone wants to take advantage of the holiday (period) and (so) films are coming (on that day).” Told PTI. Rajkumar, known for films like Om, Shiva, said, “We wish everyone well, may every film do well. “Let people take advantage of the holiday season, come see all the movies, so they can have a good celebration by watching all the movies.” , Thomasu and Mufti, among others, added. Ghost also stars Jayaram, Anupam Kher, Prashant Narayanan, Satya Prakash and Archana Jois.
Jayaram said that he does not see the box office clash between Ghost and Leo as a “competition”. “It is Dussehra time and in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and everywhere else, it is Navratri. It’s the holiday season so there are a lot of movies coming up. (There is) no competition,” said the actor, who has earned wide recognition for his roles in films. “Thooval Kottaram” “Swayamvara Panthal”, and “Bhaagamathie”, Rajkumar believes that an action film backed with the right emotions is universally appealing.
“The sentiments are the same everywhere, be it North or South (of India). Action always appeals to people everywhere, especially in India. There is emotion along with action in this film. “Action doesn’t mean he (the hero) just keeps fighting. There should be a purpose and that purpose is very strong in the film. Apart from this, the film also has a lovely message which everyone should understand. Technically, he (the director) has done it well.” Sharing similar sentiments, Jayaram said, “Today everything is universal.”
“Action is universal because the fight (sequences) work everywhere, people don’t need language to understand it,” the director said. The 66-year-old Rajkumar said there has been a massive change in action films thanks to technology. He said, “Earlier there used to be a specific kind of action, now it is being made visually in an interesting way.” The actor believes that his late superstar brother, Puneet Rajkumar, popularly known as Appu, was one of the best action stars of Indian cinema. “In India, there is Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Punit, I think they are the top action heroes,” he said. He further said, his brother was equally good at dancing and singing.
Rajkumar, who has over three decades of experience in business, said he likes to reinvent himself with time. “Sometimes we have to look back (at our career). We must remember the old actors and directors; We should not forget the past. We have to keep up with the latest trends. There are people around me to update. “I have a daughter, she’s a producer, so she’s there (to keep me informed). Then we have enthusiastic fans, who will say, ‘Anna, watch this film, make this kind of film.’
“Therefore, there is encouragement and encouragement from the youth around us,” he said. She was being typecast in a maternal role. “When a film becomes successful to that extent, it has positive and negative (effects). On the positive side, it has given me such huge popularity which has forced me to come to Mumbai for Ghost. The negative (the point is), is typecasting. Whenever people (producers) call me, most of them call me for the mother’s role. But films like Ghost and my previous Kannada films will change that image of mine,” she said.
