Farmers protest against ‘dismantling’ market panels

Taking up arms against the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government for allegedly disbanding at least 26 market committees in Punjab, farmers burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and threatened to harm the party’s candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. will not be allowed. Enter the villages.

The farmers, led by Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti (KMSC) general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher, accused the AAP government of backstabbing the farmers. Pandher said that the government has dissolved 26 market committees, which will affect hundreds of grain markets.

“With this decision, the government has helped nine private silos which are managed by big corporates. People of Punjab need to understand that Bhagwant Mann is not better than Narendra Modi. While we are already protesting against the central government on the borders of Haryana, KMSC will also fight on the streets against the decision of the Punjab government,” Pandher said.
The KMSC leader said that if farmers have to sell their agricultural produce to corporate houses, their interests cannot be protected. He said that his demand is that agricultural produce should be procured by the government.

KMSC has also asked employees of market committees and commission agents to join the protest led by farmer organizations to force the government to withdraw its decision to dissolve the market committees.
Meanwhile, a group of farmers, including women, left for Shambhu border from the railway station here on Saturday to take part in the ongoing protest against the Central government over the issue of legal guarantee for minimum support price. Pandher said that our protest has completed 45 days and will continue until our demands are met.
