Fatorda area councilors waiting for their turn on the ‘rotating’ chair of MMC
Margao: A political controversy has erupted over leadership roles in the city council in Margao, with BJP councilor from Fatorda constituency Camilo Barreto expressing dissatisfaction. Barreto claims that councilors from Margao constituency currently hold both the posts of president and vice-president, and this position is considered unfair for Fatorda councillors.
Barreto alleged that Damodar Shirodkar, who hails from Margao constituency and belongs to the camp of BJP MLA Digambar Kamat, had given a commitment to give a chance to a BJP councilor from Fatorda after he completes 15 months as president. A day earlier, Chairperson Shirodkar had denied any such agreement.
Barreto said, “I raised this issue with BJP state president Sadanand Tanawade, in which he told me that Fatorda BJP leader and former MLA Damu Naik has been instructed to hand over the charge of president to me.”
He further said that the current Chairman Damodar Shirodkar has completed his 15-month tenure and performed his duties, and now it is his responsibility to hand over the charge to others.
Barreto questioned, “Shirodkar always said that he had no personal interest in continuing on the chair, then how come he is not ready to step down from the post.” He believes that there is a need for leadership among the Scheduled Tribe councilors. Has the capacity to. Council and now decisions will be taken by local political leaders. “Now, both the chairs; president and vice-president need to be given to BJP councilors from Fatorda,” Barreto said.
