Fine may be imposed for burning stubble in fields
Dhamtari : The harvesting of Kharif paddy crop is nearing completion. After harvesting the paddy crop, incidents of burning of residues in the fields keep happening, which causes pollution in the environment due to the spread of poisonous gases like methane, carbon monoxide, nitroxide, which is harmful for human life as well as animals and birds. . Besides, by burning crop residues, the micro-organisms available in the soil get destroyed, the fertility of the soil gets reduced and the friendly organisms like earthworms, spiders etc. are also destroyed. Deputy Director Agriculture said that if the issue related to burning of crop residue comes to the notice of the government, a provision for penalty has been made. Under this, there is a provision of a fine of Rs 2,500 on farmers holding 2 acres of agricultural land, Rs 5,000 on farmers holding land between 2 to 5 acres and Rs 15,000 as fine and punishment on farmers holding more than 5 acres of land.
The Deputy Director has asked the farmers not to burn crop residue, but to manage it properly. He has also given suggestions for this. According to the issued suggestions, after harvesting, plowing along with the crop residue lying in the field, light irrigation after sprinkling water, spraying of Trichoderma, after harvesting, deep plowing along with the residue lying in the field and watering the crop. The remains are converted into manure, which will provide major and micronutrients for the next crop. The organic elements obtained from crop residues in the soil get converted into fertilizer and are supplied to the crops, which improves the soil organization and structure as well as increases the water holding capacity of the soil. Paddy straw can be treated with urea and used as digestible and nutritious fodder for animals. The Deputy Director has appealed to the farmer brothers not to burn stubble and cooperate in keeping the environment safe.
