Tamil Nadu: Delay in filling vacant seats in medical courses.

Tamil Nadu: The state’s Medical Education Department is waiting as the National Medical Commission (NMC) has not yet granted permission to fill over 100 vacant MBBS seats across the country.

Student organizations are also awaiting approval to fill 48 MBBS and BDS seats in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu has 6,600 MBBS seats and 1,583 BDS seats under the government quota in government and self-financing medical colleges. There are also 1,736 MBBS seats and 530 BDS seats under the management quota. Four rounds of counseling for these seats were conducted through the https://tnmedicalselection.net website.

Consequently, 25 MBBS seats and 23 BDS seats remained vacant. Permission was sought from the National Medical Commission to fill these seats. However, even after 20 days, approval has not been received. This has created a situation where these seats may go to waste.

Officials from the Directorate of Medical Education said:

There are 1.12 lakh medical seats available across the country. Even after four rounds of counseling for these seats, it appears that more than a thousand seats remain vacant.

The NMC has sought information on vacant seats from all states so that they can be filled.

Meanwhile, two dates have been announced for special counseling for vacant BDS seats under the All India quota. They expressed hope that similar permission would be granted for the state’s seats as well.
