First giraffe calf born in Guwahati Zoo, named ‘Parijat’
Guwahati: The first giraffe born in zoology was named ‘Parijat’ on Saturday and this name was selected among hundreds of suggestions.
Prime Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma here announced the names of about two months of work at the Assam State Zoological and Botanical Garden, popularly known as Zoological Garden of Guwahati.
“We got around 350 names for the giraffe game. The name ‘Parijaat’ was chosen through lottery,” Sarma said.
Last month, the CM had sought suggestions through social networks to name the creature in honor of his birth in zoology.
This creature is the first giraffe to be born in the kingdom zoology. Home to two giraffes that were brought here at different times from other zoologists in the country under an animal exchange programme.
Sarma, who also fed Ternero during his visit, said he was fine.
Under his direction, our team here has taken good care of Ternary and he is completely healthy.” he said.
The CM said that the government plans to transform Guwahati’s zoology into the best zoology in the country.
Sarma also said they are introducing more animals to the public, including two orangutans that were recently rescued from trafficking.
He also said that work in two zoological parks in Silchar and Dibrugarh is in the initial stage and a tender has been called.
