Flights disrupted due to dense fog, CAT IIIB operations implemented at Delhi airport
New Delhi: Delhi battled a dense blanket of dense fog on Monday, reducing visibility to zero and causing significant disruptions in flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a report indicating that there was very dense fog over the airport in the early morning, with Runway Visual Range (RVR) recorded between 125 and 175 meters on all runways.
This forced the implementation of CAT IIIB operations for both takeoff and landing.
“Very dense fog with zero visibility at Delhi IGI Airport from 05:30 am IST today. All RVR on RWY 125 to 175 meters and operations are under CAT IIIB, IMD in a post at X.
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said in an advisory for passengers. In response to the challenging weather conditions, airlines including SpiceJet issued warnings to passengers about possible disruptions in departures and arrivals.
“Due to inclement weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their resulting flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to keep checking their flight status,” SpiceJet said in a tweet on Monday morning.
According to sources, several flights were delayed and diverted due to poor visibility.
There was fog in Delhi on Monday morning and the minimum temperature in the national capital dropped to the seasonal average of 7.8 degrees Celsius.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature is likely to be around 25 degrees with mainly clear sky and light to moderate fog.
