Four Kurdish terrorists killed in Turkish drone attack in Iraq
Baghdad (IANS). A senior member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and three militants were killed in a Turkish drone strike in northern Iraq, the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region’s counter-terrorism service said in a statement.
The statement said a Turkish drone struck and killed the militants’ vehicle on a road in the Chalmir area of the Sinjar Mountains, about 120 km west of Mosul, the provincial capital of Nineveh.
Turkish forces frequently carry out ground operations, airstrikes and artillery bombardments against the PKK in northern Iraq, especially in the Qandil mountains, the group’s main base, Xinhua news agency reported.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the European Union, has waged an insurgency against the Turkish government for more than three decades.
