‘Gadar 2’ heading towards Rs 300 crore collection, ‘Jailor’ earns so many crores
New Delhi (IANS). ‘Gadar 2’ has earned Rs 270.20 crore since its release on August 11, continuing its winning streak at the box office.
If the worldwide collection is added to this, it is closer to Rs 300 crore (which comes out to be around Rs 298.20 crore). This blockbuster made the highest day-wise nett (Rs 55.4 crore) on 15 August.
Rajinikanth starrer Tamil hit film ‘Jailor’ is very close on its heels (in India) with its net collection (ie minus GST, which is 18 per cent on films) at Rs 210.65 crore since its release on 10th August.
Buoyed by Thalaivaa’s huge overseas fan following, the film’s worldwide earnings have been estimated by the trade media at Rs 392.20 crore, which is much higher than ‘Gadar 2’.
In comparison, the worldwide collection of ‘OMG 2’, though it has been the best for an Akshay Kumar-led film in the last two years, is yet to reach Rs 100 crore. It still hangs at Rs 99.30 crore. Its gross collection in India is around Rs 85.3 cr (Net: 72.27 cr).
Compared to these heavy hitters, Chiranjeevi’s ‘Bhola Shankar’ had to be content with a worldwide figure of Rs 39 crore, with Indian theaters contributing Rs 33.4 crore (Total Rs 28.35 crore).
Analyzing ‘Gadar 2’ for IANS, Karan Taurani, trade analyst and senior vice-president at Elara Capital, said, “The film has seen a huge impact in the north, especially in tier 2 and tier 3 markets, which have seen a huge jump “
The Sunny Deol and original ‘Gadar’ actress Ameesha Patel starrer is registering an average occupancy of over 80 per cent across the country from Bengaluru to Delhi-NCR, where it achieved a stupendous 95.75 per cent occupancy.
Taurani believes viewership will drop now that the Independence Day fervor is behind, but the trade fraternity is excited about ‘Gadar 2’ joining the Rs 500 crore club.
The big question running in the mind of the trade is, will ‘Gadar 2’ be able to break the record of its predecessor ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ in 2001, which rivaled ‘Lagaan’ and according to Bollywood Hungama, Earned Rs 111.73 crore (worldwide gross collection) at that time. This figure is not inflation adjusted.
