Tel Aviv: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Sunday alleged that it had recovered weapons, including sophisticated weapons, from a civilian residential area in Gaza.
The IDF said in a statement that soldiers from the 261st Brigade recovered weapons from a building where civilians were taking shelter in northern Gaza.
The IDF said the building was located near a school, as well as a mosque and a clinic.
“Soldiers found explosive belts adapted for children. Dozens of mortars, hundreds of grenades and intelligence documents were also recovered,” the IDF claimed.
The IDF said they have attacked at least 200 targets in Gaza over the past few days.
“In northern Gaza, soldiers from the Yiftah Brigade identified several terrorist operatives coming out of a building used for surveillance by Hamas,” the IDF said.
In Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, soldiers from the Kfir Brigade raided a Hamas headquarters, finding weapons including dozens of grenades and explosive devices, the IDF said.
During a one-week temporary ceasefire between Hamas and Israel from 24 November to 1 December, Hamas released 105 hostages, while 129 hostages still remain in Hamas captivity.
The Israelis believe that at least 20 of the remaining 129 hostages have died.
There are thousands of Palestinians in Israeli prisons who are being held without trial and without legal counsel.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club said Israeli forces have arrested more than 4,655 people in the occupied West Bank since October 7.
After Hamas attacked Israel in a surprise attack on October 7, Israel launched a ground offensive inside Gaza on October 27, killing 1,200 Israelis and taking more than 200 hostage.
Since the start of hostilities between Hamas and Israel, more than 20,057 Palestinians have been killed, mostly children and women, while 52,286 Palestinians have been injured.
