Government employees took out a rally in Delhi demanding restoration of the old pension scheme.

New Delhi (ANI): Employees of central and state governments and public sector undertakings (PSUs) protested at Ramlila Maidan here on Sunday demanding that the central government bring back the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
The protest named ‘Pension Shankhnaad Maharally’ was organized under the aegis of National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) to put pressure on the Central Government to scrap the existing National Pension Scheme (NPS) and bring back OPS.

The old pension scheme in the country has been closed since 2004 and in Maharashtra since 2005. We don’t want NPS (New Pension Scheme), we don’t want this stock market scheme. The Constitution also says that the old pension is stopped. “It is our right…”, Jitendra, one of the protesters from Pune, Maharashtra, told ANI.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have supported the demands of the protesters and asked the BJP government at the Center to bring back OPS.
“Old pension is the right of employees. Congress-led state governments have restored the old pension scheme,” the Congress posted on Twitter.
“Our policy on this is clear – employees should get their rights. The Modi government should restore old pensions, and respect the workers who serve the country,” the post said.
States like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have announced to bring back OPS.
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said his party strongly supports bringing back OPS, adding that NPS (New Pension Scheme) is an “injustice against employees”.
“We strongly support the demand of government employees to bring back OPS. NPS is an injustice against employees. We have implemented OPS in Punjab and have written to the Center to implement it for Delhi government employees. Some others Non-BJP governments have also implemented it.” OPS,” Kejriwal posted on X.
