Governor Anusuiya Uikey met DGP
Imphal: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uike on Thursday sought harshest punishment for the culprits involved in the tragic incident in the state’s Kangpokpi district where two women were stripped naked and allegedly gang-raped by a mob. He said, “Strictest punishment should be given so that no one can do such audacity in future.” A Raj Bhavan source said the Governor met Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Singh and inquired about the incident of women being paraded naked by a mob in Kangpokpi district, the video of which went viral on social media. Condemning the incident, the Governor directed the DGP to take immediate steps to nab the culprits involved in the heinous crime and give them the harshest punishment as per law. He also asked senior police officers to provide special protection to the victims, if required. A Raj Bhavan statement said, “I am deeply hurt by this incident, my mind is distressed. I cannot believe that such an incident can be carried out in my state. We do not have such a culture, women have always been respected.” Has been respected. Meanwhile, the DGP told the media that the two women who were allegedly gang-raped and paraded naked by a mob in Manipur on May 4 in a paddy field are safe now.
