Governor sit-in a mere show, says LDF
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : In a dramatic turn of events in Thiruvananthapuram, the Governor’s unprecedented sit-in protest on Saturday has ignited a flurry of reactions from different political quarters. The Left has sharply criticized the Governor’s actions, while the BJP has retaliated, accusing the government of attempting to physically intimidate Governor Khan.
The UDF, on the other hand, labeled both the Governor and the Chief Minister’s actions as childish. Education Minister V Sivankutty dismissed the Governor’s protest as a mere ‘show,’ questioning his mental state. Sivankutty emphasized that security cover has been provided to the Governor as per protocol, and despite facing protests themselves, they do not resort to sit-in protests on the road.
LDF convener EP Jayarajan launched a scathing attack on Governor Khan, questioning the appropriateness of his actions given his position. Jayarajan pointed out that protests, including black flag demonstrations, are not uncommon in Kerala, and the Governor’s response seems disproportionate and arrogant.
CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam accused the Governor of attempting to create an impression of lawlessness in the state. He questioned whether Khan’s actions were part of a pre-planned script, highlighting the alleged political motives behind the provocative statements made by Union Minister V Muraleedharan and the Governor’s call to the Union Home Minister’s secretary.
LSGD Minister MB Rajesh characterized the Governor’s actions as that of a stubborn child, but emphasized that it goes beyond mere childish behavior, indicating a political agenda. He suggested that the Governor seems to be assuming the role of the Leader of Opposition.
Union Minister V Muraleedharan strongly criticized the state government, warning against attempting to intimidate the Governor through physical means. Muraleedharan accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of sending goons to block the Governor, alleging that it is a tactic used by the Chief Minister to intimidate critics.
Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan took a jibe at the Governor-CM duo, likening their actions to those of LKG (Lower Kindergarten) students. Satheesan reiterated the Opposition’s stance that the Governor and the LDF government cannot work collaboratively. He criticized the government’s double standards, highlighting the contrasting approaches to handling protests against the Chief Minister and the Governor.
