Governor Tamilisai: Musi River Front to be rejuvenated

Hyderabad: Saying that the state government will redevelop the Musi river front on a large scale, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday said the entire urban landscape around the river will be rejuvenated and the river will once again become the lifeline of Hyderabad. “Today, we have turned our back on Musi River. The goal is to get everyone back on the river,” she said.

Addressing the joint session, the Governor said the project will include clean, sustainable water flow and river bank enhancement initiatives along with a transportation network connecting the eastern and western areas of the city.

Under the Musi Riverfront project, the government aims to establish people-friendly plazas, pedestrian zones, hawker areas and green spaces across the city. It also plans to rejuvenate the city’s historic areas and increase their accessibility.

“We are studying national and international models to incorporate best practices and teams to work on this,” he said.

The Governor said the Musi Riverfront Development Project seeks to bring about ecological and economic transformation on a scale and in a time frame that has not been attempted before.
